 Arched Window in Stratham, NH
This horizontal louver shutter is the perfect complement to this arched palladian window in Stratham, NH. The louvers all operate including those within the arch. This is unique to Kirtz Shutters, most other manufacturers will have fixed louvers in the arched area.

The quality of installation is just as important as the quality of the shutter.
When choosing plantation shutters, make sure that your dealer is experienced in the installation of shutters. An experienced installer is paramount in assuring that your shutters will look as if they were installed at the time of original construction.

 Control Sunlight with Plantation Shutters
Plantation Shutters are ideal in areas where other homes are in close proximity such as ocean front homes. This home on Moody Beach in Wells, ME has painted maple shutters throughout the house. The slightly tilted louvers bounce the harsh suns rays out of the home keeping the room cooler during the summer months.

We met some new clients in a beautiful home in Duxbury, MA yesterday. This is a beautiful home with marsh and river views. Having recently installed new windows, the clients were in need of new window treatments to assure privacy and to control sunlight.
After reviewing the available options, we quickly settled on plantation shutters as the most viable product. 3 1/2″ louver shutters fit the proportions of the window and will allow the client to control the heavy sunlight while maintaining the gorgeous views. Link

We just had a call from a client similar to calls we get almost weekly. The client and his wife had mentioned to their home builder that they might want to motorize some of their window treatments. The builder mentions this to the electrician, and the electrician asks for specifications, and so the client calls us.
Before we can answer the electrician’s question, we need to answer a number of questions with the client;
- What type of treatment will be used?
- Will they be mounted inside the window or outside?
- How many treatments in total will be motorized?
- Are wall switches or remotes or both going to be used?
- Will the treatments be operated by radio control remotes or switches?
- Would they like to use timers or solar sensors?
- Will the treatments be tied into a ‘Smart House’ system?
As you can see answering the initial question of the electrician is not that simple. The bottom line is that if you plan to use any motorized window treatments in a new home or renovation, contact us or a reputable and experienced window treatment professional early in the process. Planning ahead will allow you to save time and money as well as allowing you to budget appropriately for the treatments you would like to have. Link

I enjoyed helping a new client with a beautiful home that was converted from an old train station along the river in Kittery Point Maine this morning. The home has an over sized sliding glass door in the living room facing the river and marsh. The nine foot door affords spectacular views, but also lets in substantial drafts.
Our solution was to use the new Architella fabric from Hunter Douglas Duette in the Vertiglide, or vertical configuration. This wonderful product slides on a suspended track and closes from either side to the center of the door. This installation will provide an ‘R’ value of almost 7, far above her existing door alone and far out pacing most other window treatment options. Best of all the view is not lost when the shades are open; the stack to the side is only six inches! Link

Just got back from installing a pair of solid wood shutters perfectly shaped to fit the arched window above a tub in the master bathroom. Now the homeowner can have privacy at the touch of a button on the remote control. No more stepping into a wet tub to tilt the louvers!
This is a beautiful home in an exclusive area of Great Island or New Castle, NH. These shutters are a perfect accent that will add enjoyment and value for years to come. Link
