Portsmouth Decorating
We are asked all the time by clients “what part of the room should I begin with?”. Our answer really is where ever they would like. If you already have the furniture for a room, then move onto either the flooring/rug or the window treatments. Really the only ‘rule’ we use is that the paint color should be chosen last.
Choosing the paint color last often surprises clients. But when they think about it they understand why. Paint can be matched to any piece of furniture or fabric color. But we can remember hundreds of clients who fell in ove with a fabric only to find that the pattern is not available in the color pallet they had chosen for the room. Link

This Stratham, NH home had a decidedly Mediterranean theme in its decor. The homeowners wanted plantation shutters in the front kitchen windows for privacy, but were concerned that they would not work with the other decor. Our solution was to insert grilles in a Mediterranean design into the upper quarter of the shutters. A beautiful an unique window design. Link

Make your window a background
You’ll add beauty and grace to your home by creating a soft background in your window treatment design. Choosing simple lines, soft swags and muted or neutral colors help make a gentle, yet finished-looking decorative statement, a lovely background for a comfortably beautiful room.
Decorator blinds and shades are now available in such a wide array of styles, you may want to consider them as a background option, too. There are too many to mention here, but ask me for some suggestions… you’ll be amazed at the flexibility, functionality and beauty these new options provide.
Whether you choose to make your windows a focal point, or a subtle yet dramatic background, remember that each window in your home serves its functional purpose.
