Planning for Shades and Shutters in Andover, MA

Filed under: Window Treatment Ideas — Tags: , — admin @ 2:43 pm

We met with a new client this morning on-site at her still under construction new home. The home is just in the process of being sheetrocked, a perfect time for an initial consultation.

The client is looking for some homeycomb or fabric roller shades in the living areas that will almost disappear when up. In conversation with the client and the builder, we suggested that the builder create a pocket at the top of the window by having the top molding cover the top three open inches of the window. This way, when the shades are raised up, they truly will disappear.

In the same fashion, in discussing shutters for the home office and the master bedroom, we realized that the wall depth is not sufficient for an inside mount. We suggested that the builder not apply face moldings to these windows, and that we use a decorative frame for the shutters. This will actually save the client money.

Flat Panel with Folded Cuff

Flat panels can also be lined with a coordinating lining fabric that is exposed when folded over at the top edges between drapery rings. Notice too the short “return” of fabric that spans the area between the rod and the wall.
