Is it time to update those old bedroom shades? Well before you do, be sure to take a look at the newest innovation from Hunter Douglas; Duette Architella Shades. These shades use a uniqe honeycomb design that has a cell within the cell. This multi cell design provides increased insulation values, and actually adds beauty to the shade. The extra layer of fabric and air space allows the light to filter through the face fabric even if there is a room darkening lining in the center, allowing the shade to remain three dimensional in appearance. Insulate your Sliding Glass Door in Kittery Point, ME

Filed under: Sliding Glass Doors — Tags: , — admin @ 8:47 am

I enjoyed helping a new client with a beautiful home that was converted from an old train station along the river in Kittery Point Maine this morning. The home has an over sized sliding glass door in the living room facing the river and marsh. The nine foot door affords spectacular views, but also lets in substantial drafts.

Our solution was to use the new Architella fabric from Hunter Douglas Duette in the Vertiglide, or vertical configuration. This wonderful product slides on a suspended track and closes from either side to the center of the door. This installation will provide an ‘R’ value of almost 7, far above her existing door alone and far out pacing most other window treatment options. Best of all the view is not lost when the shades are open; the stack to the side is only six inches! Link

“Green” Window Treatments, Part 2 Groveland, MA

All natural drapes
The Green Sage Classic Naturals Collection offers long, strong, luxurious, and mildew-resistant draperies created using natural hemp and flax plants blended with silk for a gorgeous, delicate and strong fabric. With no dyes, finishes or chemicals, these curtain panels are available with rod pockets or are suitable for drapery clips.

Classic comeback
Silk is also making a resurgence and although a pricier option for window treatments, the shine and luxury of the fabric instantly wakes up a not-so-glamorous room. Anna Sova’s eco-silk is a luxurious, lightweight fabric with a crisp feel and smooth texture. Organic nut soap finishing and eco-safe dyes, containing no herbicides, pesticides or carcinogens are used in the finishing.

High tech green
Technology meets natures with the use of Honeycomb shades. Made of a spun woven polyester that when combined with the shape of the bee honeycomb, creates a detour preventing the wind or cold from penetrating the window and entering the house, which ultimately saves money in heating costs. Anti-microbial, anti-fungal traits are available woven into the fabric or offered as a topical spray. Stain-resistant and mildew- and mold-resistant fabrics are also popular picks for allergy sufferers.

Hunter Douglas’ new Duette Architella Collection, a unique honeycomb within a honeycomb construction provides deep, luminous color, true opaque appearance, improved pleat retention.
