We have really been having some fun lately working with some new clients who are building the most beautiful Craftsman style home in the North Beach area of Hampton, NH. The main floor of this home has soaring cathedral ceilings and an amazing amount of over sized windows. The window trim is all straight grain fir, in traditional craftsman styling. the ocean front windows will have natural weave grass cloth shades to accent the woods within the room, and to maximize the view. The West facing windows have a less desirable view and needed a treatment that could hide the view and block the heat of the westerly sun. Our solution is to match the grain and color of the existing trim with plantation shutters made form the same wood. The clients had no idea that this was possible and are absolutely thrilled. I am looking forward to the installation so that I can share some photos with you.

Framing a beautiful Great Bay View
When you have views that are incredible and ever changing with the seasons and the times of day, you build a room to complement those views. we were honored to recently help these clients complete this stunning project. My only regret is that our poor photography does not do justice to the room, theview or the treatments we created.
These valences were a challenge due to the curved walls and the interescting staircase. Yes, we were somewhat nervous, but very pleased when everything fit perfectly.

Yesterday I received a catalog in the mail from Smith and Noble. I love to receive their catalog, because I feel that they have done a great job of staying on top of fashion trends. I was disappointed in this issue, because nothing really seemed new. For some reason, I decided to compare the price for a Smith and Noble shade to what I could sell a comparable product for; and I was amazed!
Our regular discounted prices for just about every product I compared was lower or the same than from the catalog! And our price included measuring and installation! I can’t believe that I never took the time to compare our prices to theirs. I know our quality is better, or at the least the same, (there is not much difference in basic roller shade fabrics). And our price comes with our expertise! So, go ahead, call us today for a free in home consultation, choose the fabrics and options you want using real samples, not pictures! And we will come back to install your treatments. Our installers are professionals who only install window treatments, you don’t have to worry about some carpet installer reading the directions.

Window treatments can transform even a mundane window into the focal point of the space. An eye catching pattern or color can draw attention to this area. Window treatments can be treated as a work of art, so be creative and have fun. You can add tassels, flowers or beads. Anything to make it more creative or to fit your particular taste. If you don’t like it or change your mind, you can always take it down and replace it with something else that works!
Window treatments can reflect both your home’s architecture and your personal style. Window treatments lean more toward simple straight lines. But many of these treatments are being made with luxury fabrics such as velvet, damask and even fur and leather. Using treatments to reduce glare such as sheers can be helpful if the room gets an excessive amount of sunlight.
Draperies are definitely a decorative addition to any room and they tend to be longer than curtains and produced with velvet or cotton (heavy fabrics). A valance is a fabric covering that goes around the curtain rod and they come in many different styles including roman, waterfall valances, blouson, pinch pleat, or box.

Victorian window treatment is very complicated and specific. It is very important to choose the correct window treatments to increase the qualities and character of the windows. The Victorian window treatment consists of layered draperies, velvet curtains and heavy draped curtains using various colorful fabrics. Victorian window decor will also give a romantic touch to all your rooms.
So, now let us discuss the main components of Victorian window treatment.
1. Decoration
In the Victorian times people used to have windows which were decorated very beautifully and elegantly. Victorian window curtains often rely on lace to give you that elegant style, making it a very strong decorative element in any room. If you have access to a fabric outlet, you can create your own Victorian curtains quite inexpensively. Victorian window treatment also includes pleated and fringed valances; intricate swags and long window curtains. Always choose lace swag and jabots for the top and a lace panel or tiers for the bottom.
2. Window treatment should be appropriate for the room
Before considering Victorian window treatment, you should make sure that this treatment is appropriate for the room. While using Victorian styling, you should keep in mind that this method of decoration also includes wall coverings and accessories. Try to pay attention to the color scheme and mainly use dark colors on your walls. You can also use wall paper that gives an antique touch to the whole room.

When you are planning to sell your home, if you are planning to show your home mainly during the day light hours, then you may want to think about your selling season, the market conditions, and the benefits of window treatments.

Real estate market conditions actually influences the market’s decisions regarding window treatments. A hot markets will require fewer embellishments in order for you to sell your home. However, an increased competition in the market from many listings similar to yours may require those little extras such as great looking window coverings to attract buyers to your house.
Remember, day time light is always the best if it enters your home in from the out side, this is because the natural day light tends to make people happy.
