Drapery Fabric Enhances Your Window Architectural Style In Any Room In Your Home

Hanging drapery fabric to your living or dining room windows will add style, control light, and enhance or obscure a view. Drapery panels are usually more formal in appearance, and are mostly heaver than curtain fabric. Typically lined, pleated, and floor-length, drapery curtains are attach by hooks to a decorative rod, and some sort of cord device that hangs behind either the left or right of the drapery panel. Choose complementary treatments in rooms that open to one anther or that share the same style furniture.

Roman Shades For Your Home

Roman shades are a beautiful way to dress up your windows. The design of roman shades is very simplistic and elegant. The design of a roman shade is a rectangle of fabric that raises and lowers in folds. These folds are lowered and raised via system of cords, rings, and battens. Roman shades are a flat panel when lowered, but when raised, it folds into the top of the window frame. These folds are hidden by the window framework for a simple and clean look.  For maximum decorating function, you can choose to line your roman shades. This lining can serve many different purposes, including as insulation, light control and for privacy. These lined roman shades can help to give your room better temperature control during those windy, cold months, and help to cut your electric bill during the extreme weather months.

Find Out More about Wood Blinds

A few years back, I worked for a major manufacturing company of window treatments. This company specializes, not in the usual drapes and curtains, but in blinds. One of the most beautiful of window treatments of this sort, in my opinion, is wood blinds. They are rich in color and tone and add a certain luxury to any room decor. I have mini-blinds and vertical blinds in my home now, and I would love to change them to wood instead of vinyl and metal.

Choosing what type of shutter to use in Barrington, NH

I had a very enjoyable morning assiting a young couple with a new born baby determine what type of shutters to use in their new home. We quickly decided that we were staying with white shutters over stained, and that the 3 1/2″ louver was most appropriate. That was the easy part.

What was the best quality shutter that they could choose, and stay within their budget? In order to allow them to choose the best quality for their living spaces, and give them the option of choosing wider panels, we decided that real wood, probably maple would be used on the first floor. The family room has french doors and a very wide arch top window that would be most cost effective if made from maple. The upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms will have composite, faux wood shutters from Hunter Douglas.

This home outside of Dover, NH will have beautiful shutters throughout the house when we are done, with each room having the most appropriate shutter material available.

Get warm and cozy: Fall redecorating can help your home transition from summer to winter

Posted by Laurie A. Cerny | Kalamazoo Gazette October 12, 2008

Fall is the best time of the year to rejuvenate home decor. A great summer is already weeks behind us, and the holidays are less than two months away. Local home-improvement experts say this is the time to make a few updates and to decorate to embrace the cooler temperatures ahead.
John A. Lacko | Special to the Kalamazoo Gazette

Autumnal plants, as in this setting at Patricia White Interiors, help set the tone for the season. You also can pick nontraditional artificial flowers and foliage like tulips and roses in fall colors. One of the first things that can be changed for the fall is the front entryway. And it can start at the front door with a fresh coat of paint, said Dian Latora, owner of Corklane Decorating Center.

Another touch is to add some potted mums at the front door and a seasonal wreath. “That is the first thing people see when they come to the front door,” Latora said.

Inside the home, the foyer is another place a seasonal change could be made, by adding or changing an area rug, she said. Picking up some of the season’s colors of gold, browns and reds helps to make the change from summer to fall.

In addition to the entryway and foyer, Latora said, the living areas of the home should be the focus of the season and would be great places to make updates. Among things that could be done are changing window treatments (or just top treatments) and replacing the fabric on upholstered dining-room chairs.

Child Safe Window Treatments

Beauty, color and design are not the only considerations you should make when deciding on window treatments. How about the safety of your children, grandchildren or pets? October is Child Safety month, a good time to remind us all of this very important issue.

Consider products without cords such as plantation shutters, motorized treatments, spring operated roller shades, or the many child safe products offered by Hunter Douglas.

There is no reason that you cannot have a beautiful coordinated design and still maintain safety for children and pets. When we work with our clients in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachussets we always consider the ramifications of our design and product choices.

An attractive room could be transformed to a spectacular room by simply adding an appropriate window treatment; they change the whole look of the room. The latest trends in window treatments include color, luxe fabrics, silk panels, and puddled window drapery panels.

Color is a big trend. It used to be that everything was in creams and different shades of cream, such as darker cream, beige, and ivory. The color trends right now have moved to blues. There are so many different kinds of blues out there on the market. You will find teal, sea foam green, aquamarine and baby blue. And there are some really neat jewel tones in gold, orange and persimmon that are trendy. Brown continues to be a popular decorating color. So it’s no longer that drab, white room.
