Window shades refer to any window covering meant to hide the interior of the home from the view of passersby (thus, the use of the word ‘blind’). Depending on the material and mechanism involved, they can also be an effective means of controlling the amount of sunlight that enters a room.

Talking about the most favored window blinds, it can be claimed that the hottest ones to rule the market are the outdoor blinds. They are manually operated blinds and are the perfect ones to prevent the rain and wind from spoiling your outdoor fun and entertainment. They also offer a natural and exotic look and are indeed a great way to add casual and textured good looks to almost any kind of home decor.

Pleated shades on the other hand, offer hundreds and thousands of fashionable fabrics and colors to adorn the windows of your home or office. The various pleated shades that are available in the markets include, Roller shades, solar shades, Roman shades, sheer horizontal shades and so on. Modern and contemporary, yet classic and timeless, the pleated shades come in spring lift or bead chain loop and serve to add a unique finishing touch.

Get warm and cozy: Fall redecorating can help your home transition from summer to winter

Posted by Laurie A. Cerny | Kalamazoo Gazette October 12, 2008

Fall is the best time of the year to rejuvenate home decor. A great summer is already weeks behind us, and the holidays are less than two months away. Local home-improvement experts say this is the time to make a few updates and to decorate to embrace the cooler temperatures ahead.
John A. Lacko | Special to the Kalamazoo Gazette

Autumnal plants, as in this setting at Patricia White Interiors, help set the tone for the season. You also can pick nontraditional artificial flowers and foliage like tulips and roses in fall colors. One of the first things that can be changed for the fall is the front entryway. And it can start at the front door with a fresh coat of paint, said Dian Latora, owner of Corklane Decorating Center.

Another touch is to add some potted mums at the front door and a seasonal wreath. “That is the first thing people see when they come to the front door,” Latora said.

Inside the home, the foyer is another place a seasonal change could be made, by adding or changing an area rug, she said. Picking up some of the season’s colors of gold, browns and reds helps to make the change from summer to fall.

In addition to the entryway and foyer, Latora said, the living areas of the home should be the focus of the season and would be great places to make updates. Among things that could be done are changing window treatments (or just top treatments) and replacing the fabric on upholstered dining-room chairs.
